Calls me to see if I added the extension, I didn't. One of the guys on the security team rushes into his office, and immediately recognizes what happened. His first thought? I've been hacked, Immediately calls the Security Director and is wanting to go on full alert. Well he get's into his office pretty early in the morning, and was pulling up chrome, and realized every place that there was an image in chrome, it changed to Nicolas Cage. Well fast forward a week, someone thought it would be a funny idea to prank the Director of IT, he's a pretty funny guy and the type of guy you can go have a beer with after work. We all laugh about it and carry on with the day. I'm dying of laughter at this point and so is everyone else. "He's everywhere! I just googled cats and he's there!" He then went to Chrome, and started googling pictures to change his background, low and behold all the rage of nick cage. He realized he was pranked, what he didn't realize was the extent of it, yet. The non-suspecting intern walked back in with his coffee about 2-3 minutes after I turned around, he was maybe gone for about 6-7 minutes.Ī few more minutes pass, and boom! Background changes to David Hasselhoff on a fur rug. I then turned back around, messaged some of the "Intern Mentors" on Skype to walk in the room in about 10 minutes or so to see something hilarious. I created a background theme (of which included pictures of the Hasselhoff and Nick Cage), with the first picture being his existing background and set the time to change backgrounds to 15 minutes, then I pulled up chrome and went to the chrome store and downloaded the NCage extension and installed it. One of the interns went to go get coffee (for himself), so I whipped my chair around and rolled the 3' distance to his desk area. About a week and half into the internship the golden opportunity arrived! O Anyways, I had known about the NCage chrome extension for a little while and was eager to unleash the rage that is Nicolas Cage onto another intern. Well at the time they placed all 5 of us in a "Supply Closet", basically a room in the main hallway that had tables/desks along the walls. For example if someone left their computer unlocked they would change a desktop background to David Hasselhoff, you were then Hasselhoffed. The IT department there had a really nice and relaxed culture, so some of the employee's would often play small pranks on each other. So a couple summers ago, I was working as an IT Intern for a decently sized company(3k-ish employees) in Houston. A Story about NCage and how I inadvertently caused a security incident: ![]()
